Jeff Spangenberger

Director, the ReCell Center
Argonne National Laboratory

Jeff Spangenberger is the Materials Recycling R&D Program Lead at Argonne National Laboratory.  His program works to solve material separation, recovery and recycling challenges resulting in cost effective and environmentally sustainable processes that are then transferable to commercial installation. Through close collaboration with industry, Mr. Spangenberger and his team have demonstrated the recovery of plastics, metals and materials from numerous waste streams such as auto shredder residue and electronic waste from bench through commercial scales.  In recent years, his research has focused on lithium-ion battery recycling and he is the director of the ReCell center, an advanced battery recycling program funded by the Vehicle Technologies Office of DOE to evaluate and advance the cost effective and sustainable recycling of end-of-life advanced batteries.
